On 11 September 2026, Austrian Leading Sights welcomed members to a workshop at Festung Kufstein. The evening began with an exclusive sight inspection and guided tour of the fortress, followed by a relaxed networking dinner — setting the tone for the following day’s focus on retail.
Around 30 sales managers and retail specialists from Austria’s leading attractions came together to share ideas on shop design, product assortment, and best practice.
The day opened with Emanuel Präauer, CEO of Festung Kufstein, offering a first-hand look at the fortress’s own retail concept. Tourism consultant Richard Bauer then presented a survey-based overview of where member attractions currently stand when it comes to their shops.
Retail design took centre stage for much of the programme. The Schönbrunn Group showcased three distinct shop concepts from three different sites, illustrating how details as subtle as product placement, scent, and music shape purchasing behaviour. The MuseumsQuartier Wien walked through the operational and organisational side of running a shop, along with how it positions its offering. Jeremy Ensor, Managing Director of Wild Republic, took a broader view of shop concepts altogether — covering everything from early-stage planning to assortment, presentation, and the dos and don’ts of getting it right. Closing out the day, Markus Knoflach, Sales Director at Josef Manner & Comp. AG, brought an outside perspective, drawing on his experience running 15 shops across Austria and sharing insights on product range and partnerships.
A big thank you to everyone who joined — it made for a rich and genuinely inspiring exchange!
