Forchtenstein Castle

Melinda Esterhazy-Platz 1, 7212 Forchtenstein

Visible from afar, Forchtenstein Castle is enthroned on a rocky cone of the Rosalia Mountains and bears witness to an eventful, warlike time. Its roots go back to the 13th century, and since the 1620s it has been associated with the Esterházy name. Paul I Esterházy expanded the castle into the baroque high castle in which today the historical Kunstkammer, the armory, and permanent and special exhibitions invite visitors on a journey into history.
