Mauterndorf Castle

Markt 27, 5570 Mauterndorf

Since the 13th century, Mauterndorf Castle has meant for travelers: open your purse and pay the toll. The trade route across the Alps once led through this important toll road. Today, figures and staged scenes invite you to a newly interpreted journey back in time to the Middle Ages. Among the highlights are a tour of the 44 meter high defense tower as well as the exploration of the private quarters of Prince Bishop Leonhard von Keutschach, who once used the castle as a summer residence.
